Robert Leo Artz(1925-2012)

Robert Leo Artz age 86, a resident of Strasburg, died at his home, Sunday, April 1, 2012. 

A graveside service for Mr. Artz will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Robert Throckmorton officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg.

Mr. Artz was born September 12, 1925 at the Richard homeplace in Strasburg, VA, the son of the late Edward Emory Artz and Annie Adelia Richard Artz. He spent all of his life in the Strasburg area where he grew up farming with his family on Del Ray Farm and his father's orchards west of town. He was a U.S Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific. He worked at American Viscose plant (Avtex) in Front Royal, VA for 44 years retiring in 1986. Mr. Artz was a member of the Toms Brook United Methodist Church where he was active in the United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg and a member of the Massanutten Antique Tractor and Gasoline Engine Club. He married Jean Elizabeth Wisman on April 11, 1946 who preceded him in death in March 2000. 

Of his nine brothers and sisters, Samuel F. Artz of Strasburg survives. Additional other survivors are his daughters and sons-in-laws, Gloria A. Ryman and husband Leo of Maurertown and Deborah A. French and husband Charles of Edinburg. Grandchildren, Candy Ryman Phillips and husband Brett of Strasburg, Jim Ryman and wife Marty of Leesburg, Charles E. French, Jr. and wife, Kitra of Woodstock, Sarah E. French of Fredericksburg and Emily French Kenny and husband Sean of Edinburgh, Scotland. Great-granddaughters, Samantha Clark, Sadie Ryman and Carson Elizabeth Ryman. A son Jeffrey Allan Artz preceded him in death.
Bobby enjoyed his family, friends and neighbors and the loyal companionship of his little dog, Molly.
