Robert Nicholas "Nick" Davis, age 81, of Edinburg, died on Sunday, February 16, 2014.
The funeral will be conducted at the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department by the Reverend Alexander D. MacPhail and Richard Pence, on Thursday, February 20, at 11:00 AM Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Hollar, M.K. Getz, Mike Kline, Mark Irvin, Ned Irvin and Mike Clem. Musicians will be Diane Dowell and Merritt Navazio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 11, Edinburg, VA 22824 or to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
Arrangements are being handled by Valley Funeral Service in Bowman's Crossing.
Nick was born and raised in Edinburg, and was often seen walking around town. He served as the Town Crier for many years in the Edinburg Old Time Festival parade, leading the parade wearing his tricorn hat and ringing his bell. A proud member of the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, he had more than six decades of service. He worked for local companies and government departments in the area for many years. After his retirement, he particularly enjoyed the company of the Liars' Club at Bo's Shell Station on Stoney Creek Blvd.
The son of Walter B. Davis and Arline Allen Davis, Nick is survived by his sister, Jean Allen Davis; his brother, William S. Davis Sr.; his nephew, William S. Davis Jr., and his niece, Elizabeth B. Davis Wright and her husband, Thomas A. Wright, and their children, Anne L. Wright and Kyle T. Wright.
The family would like to meet with friends at the Fire Hall after the interment. Refreshments will be served.
