Thomas Sheridan Huestis

Thomas Sheridan Huestis, 81, of Woodstock, Va., passed away peacefully on January 25, 2013.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and untiringly committed to his ideals, art and work.

Tom was born and raised in Lake Forest, Il., and studied art at The Art Institute of Chicago and The Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. He was a painter who always had a sketch book in his hand and was inspired by the complexity and beauty in the world. He worked as an Art Director and Graphic Artist for various publications including Time-Life Books, The Washington Post, and Diversion and Venture Magazines. A past president of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington, he received numerous awards from the Club, The New York Art Directors Club, and other design associations.

He served as a proud Marine on the USS Albany and USS Worcester CL-144.

A thoughtful and spiritual man, Tom loved, read, collected, and cherished books; a true renaissance man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nedra; his three devoted daughters, and their husbands, and seven grandchildren who adored him and will miss him.

The family will receive friends at their home on Saturday, February 2, at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate his life. Private internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shenandoah County Library where a fund has been established in his memory.
