Jean,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of loss. Whether at work weekends or for camps and conferences at Craig Springs in the '60's and early '70's, I will always remember Bill's calm, competent leadership. Also, he always seemed to have kind, welcoming words at regional gatherings. His even-tempered ways helped me decide to follow his example! Thanks be to God for his life and witness and also to you for your love and support through the years.

Jean and family,

Upon completing my first year at Lynchburg College, I came on the staff of Craig Springs and also served as student pastor of the Craig Springs Church. That was 1972, summer of Hurricane Agnes. I remember tent camping in chilling, blustery conditions, practically freezing through the night--strange weather for the summertime--and with the storm quite a bit of extra maintenance to do. I remember Bill's words that ministers end up doing most anything including cleaning the toilets. Repairing them, too. Since then I've lived those words a thousand times. I will always remember Bill's leadership and mentoring of us; and Jean, your kind hospitality always. In that way I've become a true minister.

As I type this, I am awash in memories. When your family was at Vine Street, I babysat for a couple of you. We had many great times together. Bill was a wonderful mentor to my husband, and was the reason Wally chose Christian Education as his life's work. Bill made it appealing because, to him, it was fun! He was also a truthful counselor during our difficult time. I will miss his presence on earth. Jean, and "kids", you will be on my mind and in my prayers. He will be missed.

I have fond memories of Bill when he mentored me as I was a student intern at Vine Street Christian Church. I give thanks to God for his life. May Jean and the family discover God's comfort and grace.

Dear Fosters, may God's love and peace fill your hearts today and the days ahead. Bill, and all of you, are such a part of my Craig Springs memories and Craig Springs is part of the fabric of my life with Christ. The hikes and Vesper Services around the camp fire brought us all a little closer to heaven. Now there is one more friend in heaven waiting to greet us some day.

Thank you all for sharing Bill with so many of us "little campers".

Myrna, I am so glad of the time we had together at the 50th Anniversary.

My prayers are with you all during this time of sadness and loss.

Our loss is heaven's joy. Bill was a blessing to many people who knew him as the director of Craig Springs and through his work for the Christian Church in Virginia. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Myrna, I am so thankful we were able to talk this spring and share memories of your dad and all the family. May the peace of God be with you always especially during this sad time. - Kathy Umberger Witt

Words can not express how sorry I was to hear of Bill's passing. My Prayers are with you all during this time. I know that we can all take comfort in the fact that Bill is an Angel in Heaven with God now and he is looking down upon us and upon Craig Springs! Those of us who went to Craig Springs will always remember Bill as a wonderful person who helped make our summers special.
