Matthew Darne Obituary
He was born September 20, 1982 in Fairfax and was the son of Robert Darne of Mt. Jackson and the late Linda Grubbs Stickland.
Mr. Darne graduated from McLean High School and had served with the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant. He was employed as a Correctional Officer with the Augusta Correctional Center.
On September 10, 2011, he married Stephanie Estep Darne who survives.
Also surviving are his father, Robert Darne and his companion Carole Prince of Mt. Jackson; a sister, Denise Southerland of Dumfries; a grandmother, Wanda Grubbs of Woodstock; aunts, Jeannie Benjamin of Woodstock, Diane Plaugher of Woodstock, and Helen Graves of Cobb Island, MD; an uncle, David Benjamin of Woodstock; and an aunt, Liz White of Arlington.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Windhaven Church in Mt. Jackson with the Rev. Brad Selan officiating. Interment will follow in the Hampton Cemetery at Star Tannery with members of the Massanutten V.F.W. Post #2447 conducting graveside rites.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Windhaven Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
