Thomas Ralph Callaway, 82, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away January 2, 2013 in his home at The Southerlands.

Memorial services will be conducted at Marlow Heights Baptist Church in Front Royal on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Bunce officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, January 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland.
Thomas was born in Simcoe Ontario, Canada on January 29, 1930. He went to high school at Warren County High School and graduated in 1948. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated with honors from University of Florida with a degree in Architecture. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as Housing Advisor in the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 30+ years. In this position, he helped build homes and improved living conditions in over 56 countries.
He led the St Mary's City Militia as Muster Master, recreating 17th century culture and battles and was also the author of several history books. He enjoyed spending time with family, reading, traveling and taking hikes in the Shenandoah Valley.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Callaway of Front Royal, Virginia, and daughter, Sharon Gray, son-in-law, David Gray and grandson, Michael Gray of Severna Park, Maryland.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Winchester Memorial and Warren County hospitals, and The Southerlands for their incredible support in his final days.
