Alvin George "Pap" Wymer, age 89, a resident of Strasburg passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his residence.
A funeral service for Mr. Wymer will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Aaron Fitch Officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester with military honors conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg.
He was born in the Mt. Olive community of Shenandoah County on February 22, 1924, a son of the late James William Wymer, Sr. and Minnie Ellen Beddows Wymer.
He was a member of Hites Chapel United Methodist Church and retired as a Supervisor from Abex Corp. with 35 years of service and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge 403, life member of VFW Post 9646 of Stephens City, and Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Feathers; two sister and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Robinson Wymer of Strasburg, VA; his children, Patricia Feathers and husband, George, Sherry Moss and husband, Wayne both of Strasburg, VA, Jean Renner and husband, Bengy of Middletown, VA, Kathy Kump and husband, Dumpy of Lebanon Church, VA, and Wayne Wymer and wife, Sharon of Winchester, VA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Walters, Jackie Grubbs, Ron Downing, Clarence Shurtz, Danny Ferguson, and Clifton Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Strasburg Moose Lodge 403.
The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM.
