Alvin William Cook, 78, of Woodstock, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at his home.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Brethren Church. Reverends Freddie Helsley and Howard Lutz will officiate. Burial with military honors by Edinburg VFW #2447 and Woodstock American Legion Post #199 will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Cook was born July 11, 1934 in St. Luke, son of the late Carl and Thelma George Cook. He was a 1952 graduate of Woodstock High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Safeway for 39 years and C.E. Thompson for 11 years. He was a member, trustee and deacon of St. Luke Brethren Church, member of Gideon's International, Edinburg V.F.W. #2447, Woodstock American Legion Post #199 and Walkers Cash Store Breakfast Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Frye Cook.

Alvin loved family get togethers and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved his church family and traveling especially to West Virginia. He loved farming and his John Deere A Tractor, hunting, auto racing and watching RFD TV.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie Pence Cook; three daughters, Rhonda Rau and husband Ronnie of Edinburg, Anita Mowery and husband Vic of Toms Brook, Donna Copenhaver and husband Wade of St. Luke; two sons, Davey Cook and wife Karen of Mt. Hermon and Danny Cook and wife April of St. Luke; three brothers, Larry Cook and Nelson Cook both of St. Luke and Dwight Cook of Seaford, Delaware; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Racey, Jim Racey, Larry Richard, Clay Cook, Curtis Heltzel and Sam Heishman.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Joshua Rau, Becky Tinsley, Jennifer Mowery, Jason Mowery, Kristina Copenhaver, Sarah Copenhaver , Donal Cook, Cassie Cook, Caleb Cook and Clarissa Cook.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.
