Bertha Mae McFillen Lichliter, 92, of Stephenson, VA, died at home on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Bertha was born in Clarke County, VA to parents Lydia Mae Oats and Robert A. McFillen on April 29, 1921.
She was a faithful member of Burnt Factory United Methodist Church in Stephenson, VA.
She graduated from Clarke County High School in Berryville, VA in June of 1941. She graduated at the top of her class from the School of Psychiatric Nursing in Maryland where she worked for three years.
She worked for 24 years at Crown Cork and Seal, retiring in 1969. She later went to work for Lowe's of Winchester where she enjoyed her co-workers and customers for 23 years. She was proud that at the age of 90, she was the second oldest employee of Lowe's nationwide.
On her 80th birthday, she was treated to a ride with the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group around Winchester. On her 90th birthday, she rode in the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Firefighter's Parade with George Tincher of the Golden Wing Riders.
She was an avid animal lover always adopting a new pet.
She is survived by one daughter, Lydia L. and son-in-law, Lawrence H. Russell III of Berryville, VA; one granddaughter, Lissa Anne Stern; and a great-grandson, Kaleb Conner Stern.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Garland McFillen, Lee McFillen, Smith McFillen, and Ardell McFillen; and three sisters, Eva Pope, Ruth Swartz, and Julia Crim. She was the last surviving member of her family.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Pastor Steve Melester officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
