Betty Jean Catherine Rhodes Cary, of Broadway, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.Burial will be private.

Betty retired as the Deputy Commissioner from the Warren County Commissioner of Revenue Office in 1991 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed retirement by being with family, fishing and traveling the country with her husband, Walter, in their motor home.

Her first husband, John D. Powell, Jr., preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by her husband of 33 years, Walter O. Cary; four sons, John D. "Robbie" Powell III of Charleston, WV, Bruce G. Powell of Winchester, Brian G. Powell of Broadway, and Mark S. Powell of Broadway; a step-daughter, April C. Pittman of Courtland; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, David N. Rhodes of Fayetteville, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Betty's favorite charitable organization, Hope Tree Family Services, formally known as the Virginia Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 849, Salem, VA 24153.
