Dorothy "Dee" Louise Jones, 85, of Mt. Jackson, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Dee was born May 4, 1927 in Oklahoma, daughter of the late Steven Luke and Macie Hughes Nelms. She was married to the late Donald E. Jones. Her last job before retirement was as a cook on a river boat in the Mississippi River. Dee moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 2002 from Memphis, Tennessee. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1954. Dee was an avid gardener and an active member of the Shenandoah Garden Club.

Dee is survived by her daughters, Karen Sue Burnett, Mount Jackson, and Kimberly McClain Landers, Arlington, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Joseph John Nolen, Danielle Maria Huskey, Monika Dawn Nolen, Amy Nola McClain, Erika Dee Maxey, Lucian Ray Landers and Benjamin Eric Landers; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Paige Nolen, Alex, Megan and Emily Barnes, Chance Maxey, and Logan Reynolds, Aryia and Wayne Landers; one great-great grandson, Julian Ty Richards, and happily awaiting the arrival of Royce Elias Gonzalez.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was predeceased by daughter, Pamela Louise Griffin; son, Steven Glenn McClain, and granddaughter, Michelle Renee Bays.

Services are private.

Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, Attn: Gift Processing or Tribute Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. These were two of Dee's favorite charities.
