Edward Hoyt Schwarz Jr. (1937 - 2019)

Edward Hoyt Schwarz Jr., died March 10, 2019, in Sandy Spring, MD. He was 91.

He was born October 4, 1927 in Chase City, VA, one of four children of Edward H. and Helen Schwarz.

One brother, Louis J. Schwarz, is surviving.

Ed grew up in Greenville, NC and graduated from High School in Danville, VA.

He worked for Central Leaf Tobacco Co. in Durham, NC and then moved to Washington, DC where he worked for the National Bank of Washington.

He attended the American University, earned an AA degree and then was accepted into the Washington College of Law, graduating with a J.D in Law in 1956. He was Treasurer and then Dean of the Delta Theta Law Fraternity. He became a member of the Federal Bar of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Supreme Court.

While working for 27 years as an officer at the Bank, he was active in Trusts, estates, and real estate development and sales, interests that continued after leaving the bank. For 23 years he held a commercial real estate sales license with The Michael Companies of Landover, MD.

Ed met and married Betty Jean Boyce, originally from Woodstock, VA, in 1950. They had two children, Edward H Schwarz III and Barbara Jean Herron, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

While they lived in Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD, Ed was President of Mutual 14. In 2005, they moved to Woodstock, VA and in 2013 they moved back to Leisure World.

A memorial service will be conducted at Valley Funeral Home in Edinburg, VA at 2 p.m. Thursday followed by internment in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock, VA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
