Eleanor Goodman Rappaport, 98, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, in her home.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rabbi Scott Sperling. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester.

Mrs. Rappaport was born February 29, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of Charles and Dora Mendelson Goodman. She was married to the late David Jacob Rappaport.

Mrs. Rappaport graduated from William Penn High School for Girls in 1933 and was Valedictorian of her class. She was the owner of The Boston Store in Front Royal since 1933 and held that position for 71 years. She was a founding member of the Beth El Congregation in Winchester; was a member of the Beth El Sisterhood; and taught Religious School.

Being active in her community she was a member of the General Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; the Front Royal Music Study Club; the Front Royal Oratorio Society; the Blue Ridge Arts Council; the Downtown Business Association; and a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

Mrs. Rappaport was honored by being given the Key to Front Royal and was the 2002 Business Person of the Year.

Surviving are her children Stephen Rappaport of Purcellville and his wife Margaret, Janet Rappaport Rosenfield of Tyler, Texas, and her husband Larry, and H. Bruce Rappaport of Gainesville; four grandchildren David Rappaport, Daniel Rappaport and his wife Kathryn Whiteman, Gabriel Rosenfield, and Zachary Rosenfield; and a greatgrandson Owen Rappaport: nephews Jerry Goodman, Bob Goodman, Fred Goodman; nieces Michelle Goodman and Sally Williamson; and sisters-in-law Anne Goodman and Sylvia Goodman.

She was preceded in death by three brothers David Goodman, Solis Goodman, and Benjamin Goodman.

Pallbearers will be David Silek, Bernie Schwartzman, Bill Steibel, Steve Sill, Marty Zuckerman, Paul Delozier, Doug Delozier, and Thomas Tharpe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Zuckerman, Maggie Sill, Amos Hall, and Ann Arena.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
