Elise Harpine Hepner, 85 of Mt. Jackson departed this life on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Oak Lea Nursing Facility of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Elise was born May 11, 1927 in Broadway, VA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Harpine. A graduate of Broadway High School she attended Madison College. She married the late Hallie H. Hepner on Oct. 11, 1946. He was President and co-owner of Hepner Bros. Inc., a concrete block plant established in 1946.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Sandra H. Cash of Richmond, Va., a son, Joseph M. Hepner and wife Donna of Mt. Jackson, and a step-son, Hallie H. Hepner Jr. of Columbia, S.C.

She has 10 grandchildren: Bryan Hepner and wife Christina (Winchester), Annan Hepner (Charlottesville), Ally Hepner (Mt. Jackson), Catherine Hepner (Seattle, WA.), Sandra Nicklas, (Canyon County, CA.), Lisa Thorsen ( Thousand Oaks, CA.), David Hepner ( Raleigh, NC.), Warren Barnes (Newport News), Alexandra Martinez, (CT.), and Kelley Beiboer, (NSW, Australia). There are 19 greatgrandchildren.

Prior to entering VMRC, she shared her time between Mt. Jackson and Dunedin, FL.

She was very fortunate to be a worldwide traveler. Volunteering at the Mt. Jackson Museum and the Mt. Jackson Library was another pastime. She was a lifetime member of the Mt. Jackson Garden Club and a member of the Mt. Jackson Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 5, 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church, 3260 Zion Church Rd., Broadway, VA. 22815.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to VMRC - Woodland Park Project (1501 VA Ave. Harrisonburg 22802), the Mt. Jackson Museum, 22842, or Zion Mennonite Church cemetery fund.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses, staff and volunteers at VMRC for their excellent care over the past 7 years.
