George Milton Shipe Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock by Rev. Timothy Nilsen. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

George was born to Joseph and Jessie Shipe in Edinburg, VA. He graduated Edinburg High School, served in the United States Army, and made his career in the Government at Harry Diamond Laboratories. He was a 60 year Mason, a member of Hunter Lodge, and the Chapter in Edinburg; The Luray Commandry and past District Deputy Grand Master; The Scottish Rite and the Shrine; past president of AARP, NARFE; active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church; and active in Relay for Life.

He was married to Nancy Thom for 55 years, until her death in October 2012.

He is survived by his five children, Debra Silverman, George Shipe, Jr., Rebecca Tax, Winnie Chastain, and Nora Shipe; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was a loving, cherished member of his family and his community and will be missed dearly.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
