Jacqueline Bowen Proffitt, 87, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.

Mrs. Proffitt was born on February 23, 1925 in Bluefield, WV, the daughter of the late Lewis D. and Virginia Davidson Bowen. She retired from J.C. Penney in Winchester.
Her memberships included Macedonia United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, A.A.R.P. and VFW Post 9760 in Berryville, VA.
She married the late Granville Earl Proffitt, Sr. on December 17, 1941 in Tazewell, VA.
She is survived by two sons, Granville Earl Proffitt, Jr. and James Lewis Proffitt, both of Winchester; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Allan Proffitt; three sisters, Hazel Addair, Berniece Linkous and Evelyn Davidson; and three brothers, Daniel Bowen, Harold Bowen and Ralph Bowen.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Friends may also call on Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Macedonia United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason B. Duley officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Alan Holland, Wayne Hoover, Earl Foreman, Allen Williams, Robert Carter and Kenny Pine.
