James Richard Hottle Sr.
James Richard Hottle Sr., 72, of Edinburg, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at his home. The funeral will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Reverends Howard Lutz and Freddie Helsley will officiate. Burial will follow in Columbia Furnace Cemetery.
Mr. Hottle was born April 6, 1936 at Columbia Furnace, son of the late Edith Kirby Hottle Helsley and James Melvin Hottle and stepson of the late Fred B. Helsley. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was an air traffic control operator and cook. He was a charter member of Woodstock Moose Lodge #575 and member of Woodstock American Legion Post #199. He was a real estate associate broker for Countrywide Realty Real Estate and a farmer for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Mauck Hottle; three sons, Wayne Hottle of Edinburg, James Hottle Jr. and his wife, Judy of Mt. Jackson and Ringo Hottle and his companion, Elizabeth Forbes of Edinburg; five daughters, Penny Hottle of Macon, Georgia, Wendy McInturff and Tammy Cook both of Edinburg, Sandra Grove and her companion, Timothy Ryan of Mt. Jackson and Lucinda Knott and her husband, David of Verona. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Hottle who lived in California. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Lois Funkhouser of Woodstock, Nancy Gioielli of Falls Church, Janice Wisman, Freddie Helsley and Teddie Helsley all of Woodstock and Randy Helsley of Edinburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Hottle. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Danielle Hottle, Lyndsi Grove-Dasher, Sam Hottle, Tripp Hottle, Shane Dasher, Tamara Knott, Jamison Cook, Josh Knott and Caitlin Hottle and his beloved pet, Nikki.
Pallbearers will be Steve Sager, Gene Keller, Donnie Cook, Jeff Nutter, Tony George, and Alan Moomaw.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham Cancer Center, 100 East Grace Street, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.
