John Michael Pappas, 65, of Strasburg, VA, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

A Celebration of Life for John will be held starting at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Lions Club Pavilion located behind the Strasburg Eagles.

John was born in Winchester, VA August 3, 1952, a son of Peggy Lee Artz Pappas and the late Mitchell George Pappas.

He was a graduate of Strasburg High School.

He was an accomplished musician, a self-taught guitar and banjo player. John was a member of numerous bands over the years including, the Cedar Creek String Band, Bottom Dollar, Wooden Nickel, and Up and Running. His proudest musical accomplishment was performing at the White House for former President Ronald Reagan with the Phil Vance Dance Band.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 4186, where he held many offices including President and was also a member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge 403.

John loved his family, friends, music and his cabin in the woods.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell George Pappas.

Survivors include his mother, Peggy Artz Pappas; his wife, Dotty Pappas; daughters, Aubrey Pappas Rogers (Brian), Katharin Pappas (companion Eric Hetzer); step-sons, Jesse Barlass, and Matt Barlass (Amparo); granddaughters, Blake Rogers, Jayden Barlass, and Leilani Barlass; one sister, Belinda Palmer; and a niece, Dierra Holbrook (Dan)

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to a charity of oneás choice.
