Kenneth A. Poe, 72, of Browntown, VA, died on Monday, March 18, 2013, at his home after battling a lengthy illness.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Normoyle and Rev. Dr. Carlysle Crank. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Poe was born November 29, 1940 in Warren County, VA, son of the late William R. Poe and Ruby Deavers Poe. He was a graduate of Warren County High School Class of 1959 and retired as a mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Browntown Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member and past-president of the Browntown Community Center. Mr. Poe enjoyed playing his guitar and singing at various functions in the area especially at Bluegrass Night in Browntown.
Surviving are his wife, Berniece Riffee Poe of Browntown; three children, Amelia "Amy" Poe Proffitt of Browntown, Eric Poe and wife Vicky, and Mark Poe and wife Yuliya, all of Browntown; three sisters, Alice Poe Grumbly, Patricia Poe Miller, and Gail Poe Miller, all of Browntown; three brothers, George W. Poe of Front Royal, Robert D. Poe of Browntown, and Edgar A. Poe of Luray; nine grandchildren, Zack Shelton, Kyle Shelton, Kenneth Blaine Shelton, Kendra Proffitt, Tony Chiveral, Anna Poe, Mary Poe, Maxim Poe, and Sophia Poe; and two great-grandchildren Rylan Shelton, Renaeley Chiveral.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Rebecca Poe and Jean Poe.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Poe, Mike Poe, Tim Poe, Billy Poe, Paul Miller and Chris Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Riffee, John Whittington, Randy Riffee, and Danny Riffee.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
