Lonnie Edgar Mason was found deceased in his Luray, Virginia, home Thursday, February 28, 2019. He was 59 years old.

He was preceded in death by Charles "Chuck" Berchdorf (father) and Walter Mason (adoptive father).

He is survived by his mother, Mildred Walker; his sisters, Bonnie Miller (Robert), Sheila Keywood, and Cassie Triplett; brother, Charles Berchdorf II (Paula); son, Lonnie "Eddie" Mason II; daughter, Brandy Renee Mason; son, Zachary Scott Mason (Emily); grandchildren, Jackson Mason and Ava Mason; and his longtime companion, Mona Beahm.

Born September 6, 1959 in Woodstock, Virginia, Lonnie was a trained mechanical engineer who was fascinated by all kinds of puzzles, including the biggest puzzle of all, life.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and shooting. His enthusiasms ranged from sports (he coached Little League baseball, and followed Carolina Panthers and JMU Dukes football), to classic rock & roll music (especially Led Zeppelin), to the Lord of the Rings books and films.

His greatest source of pride and joy, in the later years of his life, were his three adult children and his two beloved grandchildren.

Lonnie leaves behind a large family and many friends in Virginia and elsewhere. In their hearts and minds his memory and his example will live forever. "I'll meet you up there where the path runs straight and high".

The funeral service will take place Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Valley Funeral Service, 14116 S. Middle Road, Edinburg, Virginia, at 2 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 1 p.m.
