Mae Louise Culbert, who was widely loved and respected, died in the arms of family on June 7, 2012 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, Virginia at the age of 78.  She faced her physical challenges with characteristic grace, and lived until her little body could not contain her brilliant spirit one minute longer.

Born in Bethlehem, PA June 28, 1933 to Robert Guy and Grace Ellen Matz Kressly, she enjoyed a happy childhood with brother, Robert Jr. and sister, Jean. Mae graduated from Moravian Seminary for Girls in 1949 and Moravian College for Women in 1953 with an Associate Degree in Business. She excelled in field hockey, singing and playing the piano. Her first job was as Executive Secretary for Union Bank of Pennsylvania.

She married Edwin "Tex" Austin Arnold April 10, 1953, with whom she had four children: David Austin Arnold (Nancy), Melissa Gail Arnold (Anne), Michael Austin Arnold (Soo-Min) and Sandra Laraine Ganey (Steve). A superb wife and mother, Mae followed Tex through his Air Force career, stationed in 7 states over the years. Life being what it is, Mae later moved to New Hampshire on her own and worked as Executive Secretary at UNH.

In 1994 she met, fell madly in love with and married Stephen T. Culbert of Winchester, where the two spent many happy times active with the Virginia Elks, the Episcopal Church and in community arts.

Throughout Mae's life, she set an example of love and kindness that influenced everyone she met and attracted a wide circle of adoring friends. She loved gardening ("playing in the dirt"), tennis, singing hymns and show tunes, live theatre, spaghetti and chocolate ice cream. One of her favorite life-time adventures was a trip to Germany and France in 1989.

She is survived by husband Steve; ex-husband Tex; her own four children plus Steveás three, Peggy Schrock, Cindy Culbert, and Stephanie Wilfong; sister, Jean Ann Penberth; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
