Newton T. Hurd Sr., 83, of Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his home.

Services will be Monday, January 7, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Anna Havron will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens.

Newton was born May 29, 1935 in Maynor, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Amos and Vergie Gibson Hurd.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Woodstock American Legion Post #199.

He retired from Sears after 33 years and was a member of the Million Dollar Club.

He was a Master Mason with the Hunter Lodge in Edinburg and a Past Master.

He was preceded in death by a son, Archie Whitt; three brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clara Hurd; two sons, Newton Hurd Jr. and Glenn Hurd; two daughters, Nancy Hurd and Candice Haley; two sisters, Versa Painter and Joyce Edmonds; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Woodstock American Legion, , or the .

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.
