Preston E. Burchard, 92, of Harrisonburg, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Preston was born in Ames, Iowa on April 22, 1920, the son of the late Edwin and Fern Preston Burchard. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Army in Europe with the Army Corps of Engineers and as a Chaplain's assistant. Preston was a member of Wakeman's Grove Church of the Brethren and had worked in many areas of C & P Telephone in Washington, D.C., including assignments directly involved with several presidential inaugurations.
Preston is survived by his wife, Nancy Burchard; daughter, Duffy Regan of Sydney, Australia; three sons, Edwin Burchard, Robert Burchard, both of Columbia, MO and Jonathan Burchard of Mechanicsburg, PA; sister, Glendon Penske of Schenectady, NY; brother, Lowell Burchard of Arlington, VA, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A memorial service, officiated by Chaplain Paul O'Gorek, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, at Meredith Chapel, Sunnyside Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, VA.
