Sharon A. Lafferty Funk, age 54, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, after her battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Sharon was born on December 5, 1958 in Irvington, NJ. She was the daughter of Joan and Henry J. Lafferty, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, and best friend, of 32 years, Isaac (Butch) Funk, Jr. of 1327 Lakeview Drive, Woodstock, VA and her two sons, Bradley Funk (Valerie Lacy) of Wood- stock and Gregory Funk (Loren Funk) of Strasburg, VA. She is survived by her sister, Colleen Larrea (Bill Larrea) of Leeland, NC; brothers, Daniel Lafferty (Tracey) of Wilmington, NC, and Brendan Lafferty of Asheville, NC. Sharon was an Aunt to Shanay Larrea, of Rowland Heights, CA and Aidan Lafferty of NC. Sharon is survived and will be deeply missed by her countless friends, near and far, who she considered her extended family.
Sharon received her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1980 in Speech Disorders and her Masters of Education in 1992 in Special Education, both from James Madison University. She was a Speech Pathologist for 20 years at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Strasburg, VA for Shenandoah County Public Schools. In 2000, she began working as the Speech and Language Pathologist at Catoctin Elementary School in Leesburg, VA for Loudoun County Public Schools. Through the years, Sharon had a significant impact on thousands of children in helping them improve their communication skills. She was a beloved teacher and adored by all of her students, past and present.
Sharon also shared her creative side and love of teaching others as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator for 15 years. Sharon loved spending time working in her gardens and around her house which she considered her sanctuary.
A Memorial Service is being planned at a later date to celebrate Sharon's life.
In lieu of fresh flowers, the family has requested plants and bulbs that will be made into a memorial garden for others to enjoy for years to come.
