Mary Irene Orndorff, age 92, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at her home.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Walnut Springs Christian Church with Rev. Wendell M. Schurtz, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Orndorff was born April 27, 1920, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Hottel Spiker.
She was an active member of Walnut Springs Christian Church for over 75 years, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a neighborhood nurse and treated sickness with her home remedies. She was a volunteer at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and the Red Cross Blood Drives and enjoyed traveling with the Seniors. She touched the lives of many and always welcomed anyone into her home.
On December 23, 1937, she married Archie D. Orndorff. Together they built a home and raised seven children. Mr. Orndoff passed away on April 30, 1985.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Orndorff and wife Mary, Patricia Miller, James Orndorff and wife April, Roger Orndorff and wife Lois, all of Strasburg, Doug Orndorff and wife Arlene, New Rockford, North Dakota, John Orndorff and wife Dianne of Maurertown, and Brenda Campbell and husband Cecil of Clear Brook; a special grandson and her caregiver, Chris Miller; her sister, Phenie Russell of Strasburg; her brother, Boyd Spiker and wife Naomi of Tooele, Utah. Remembering Grandma are 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m.till service time.
