Richard Edward Lear, 79, of Mt. Jackson, died Friday, October 5, 2012, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester.
Mr. Lear was born October 7, 1932 in Shenandoah County, son of the late Louis Linden Lear and Ethel Florence Polk Lear.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and always willing to help others.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Marie Mook Lear who passed away March 25, 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Trudy McKenzie and husband George McKenzie III of New Market; five sons, Alex Lear of Woodstock, Mark Lear of Loganville, Georgia, Thad Lear, Clifton Lear and Clay Lear, all of Mt. Jackson; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Bert Edwin Lear.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with Pastor Dave Casto officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Jackson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Atville Lear, Christopher Hirsh, Christopher Hirsh II, Blake Hirsh and Noah Lear, Jr.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
