Alexander Gerald Crettier, 25, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Friday, November 16, 2012, in Winchester.
Alex was born on January 24, 1987 in Takoma Park, Maryland, the son of Nicholas and Kathleen Crettier.
Throughout his life, Alex was always interested in the inner workings of airplanes and flying. He had a passionate love and talent for music. He was an accomplished saxophone player from the age of seven until eighteen when he took up the guitar. He studied audio engineering and was looking forward to beginning his career. Alex played soccer for many years and also worked as a referee for the Front Royal Soccer Association. Most recently he was a machine operator at Rubbermaid Commercial Products in Winchester. Of all of his life accomplishments, Alex was most proud of his daughter Melina, whom he loved with all of his heart.
Surviving are his daughter, Melina Ann Crettier, and parents, Nicholas and Kathleen Crettier, all of Front Royal; sister, Erin Crettier of Richmond, Virginia; maternal grandfather, James Stephens of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his honorary paternal grandfather, Reverend Monsignor Gerald Lewis, from whom he received his middle name, of New Bern, North Carolina. He will also be sorely missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Alex's name to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2745, Winchester, VA 22604.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley, 6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City.
