LTC (Retired) Rene "Rusty" J. LeBlanc, Jr., CRNA, age 58, went to be with the Lord on December, 4 2012 while at home surrounded by family and friends.

Col. LeBlanc and his wife of 23 years, Phyllis, moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 2007. Col. LeBlanc was a certified registered nurse anesthetist on staff at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, VA.

He earned his BSN degree in 1976 from the Medical College of Georgia. He then entered the United States Army where he received his degree in anesthesia while on active duty in 1980. He practiced anesthesia in the Army while on active duty until 1987, and then as a reservist until he retired in 2003.

His Army career took him to California, Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, New York, Alabama and Florida.

Col. LeBlanc practiced anesthesia as a civilian from 1987 to August on 2009. His private practice career took him to Alabama, Florida, and Virginia. While practicing in Woodstock, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiform, a type of brain cancer.

Col. LeBlanc had a love for life. He was a certified skydiver, advanced scuba diver, a motorcyclist, and sprint triathlete. He also enjoyed running and biking for community fundraisers. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Williams in Guntersville AL and at St. John Bosco in Woodstock, VA.

Both Col. and Mrs. LeBlanc enjoyed fellowship at St. John Bosco Catholic and Emanuel Episcopal Churches.

Col. LeBlanc was preceded in death by his parents, Rene J. LeBlanc, Sr. and Francis Elizabeth Parker LeBlanc of North Augusta, SC.

He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Deal Harbin LeBlanc; his daughter, Heather Stewart and two sons, Rene J. LeBlanc III, and Aaron J. LeBlanc from a previous marriage, and a step daughter, Dana Harbin Fisher. He has six grandchildren, Aspen L. LeBlanc, Rene J. LeBlanc IV, Kalina M. LeBlanc, Isiaiha T. LeBlanc, Tanner Fisher, and Katelynn B. Fisher; a sister, JoAnn LeBlanc Dillon and bother-in-law Edward of SC; many nieces and nephews; and long-time friends, Tom and Joyce Balk of FL and Wayne and Sheri Kirch of AL.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 6 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home, 159 N. Main Street, Woodstock, VA 22664. A rosary service will begin at 7:30.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church located at 315 N. Main Street, Woodstock, on Friday, December 7 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Col. LeBlanc's favorite charities: Knights of Columbus or the Out Reach program at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 315 N. Main Street, Woodstock VA 22664; or to the , 2654 Valley Avenue, Suite B, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
