The Reverend Walter D. Clark, Jr., a retired priest of the Episcopal Church, died on Sunday, June 23 at his home outside of Maurertown, Virginia. He was 73.

Rev. Clark spent his youth in New York City and Sharon, Connecticut. He was a graduate of St. Bernard's School in New York City, The Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, The University of Virginia, and The Virginia Theological Seminary. He also served in the US Army working as a technician on the Redstone missile.

His life's work and passion was caring for others in service to the Lord. For over 30 years, he ministered to the diverse needs of communities in Connecticut, Texas and Virginia. He was the rector of St. Peterás Episcopal Church, Rockport, Texas for 21 years. He most recently served as interim rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Woodstock and St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mount Jackson.

In retirement, he dedicated himself to volunteer work and support of many area churches, the Chaplaincy program at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter, and Rail Solution.

He had a life-long appreciation for the beauty and complexity of nature and music. He also was a talented photographer.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sally); two sons, Stephen Clark (Lisa), Corpus Christi, Texas, and Benjamin Clark (Kimberly), Rockport, Texas; granddaughter, Jae Clark; sister and brother in law, Elizabeth and John Staelin.

A memorial service will be held on August 3 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Woodstock, Virginia with the time to be announced.
