Russell Clinton McWhinney, Jr. of Front Royal, Virginia died Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Winchester Medical Center with his beloved wife at his side.

Clint was born June 13, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late Russell C. McWhinney, Sr. and Dorothy Marie Smith McWhinney.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, Hanover, and Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, he moved with his parents and five younger brothers to Berryville, Virginia in 1956, graduating from Clarke County High School in 1960 and serving as student body president. He attended the University of Miami and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 in Company A, 3rd Battalion of the 32nd Armor Division and worked many years as a skilled heating and air conditioning professional.

He married Barbara Allen Bryant on January 30, 1965.

Surviving with his wife are three children and their spouses, Kevin Lee McWhinney and Arisel of Dominican Republic, Russell C. McWhinney III of Front Royal, and Jennifer Louise McWhinney Ruffner and Chuck of Hubert, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Cody, Conner, and Cole Ruffner and Alexander, Loic, Christopher, and Brandon McWhinney; five brothers and their spouses, Bruce D. McWhinney and Peggy, Gerard E. McWhinney and Sunny, Paul D. McWhinney and Jeanne M. Hammer, Robert E. McWhinney, and Joseph P. McWhinney and Heather; a brother and sister-in law, Barry Bryant and Paula; and numerous, special nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Yorkie, John Paul.

Clint was a devout member of the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Front Royal, Virginia and served as an Extraordinary Minister, lately for the residents of Loving Arms Assisted Living. He was a talented photographer and fretwork craftsman and loved camping, motorcycles, baking bread, the beach and feeding the birds.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Frederick Farra, Dr. P. Daly, Arlene Figgins, his diabetic nurse and all the nurses at WMC who cared for Clint.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Front Royal, Virginia. The Mass of the Resurrection of the Soul, celebrating Clint's life and officiated by Fr. Beres, will take place at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 120 W. Main St., Front Royal Virginia on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Barry Bryant, Chuck Ruffner, Andrew McWhinney, Cody Ruffner, Conner Ruffner, and Cole Ruffner.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, 208 John Rice Road, Front Royal, VA 22630.
