Robert Talbot "Buck" Funkhouser, age 93, a resident of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Consulate Health Care in Woodstock.

A Celebration of life for Mr. Funkhouser will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Nabers officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

He was born in Strasburg, VA on March 22, 1920, the son of the late Phillip Elias and Luella Rutz Funkhouser.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a pressman at Shenandoah Publishing House and at Commercial Press. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and had served on the council as well as numerous positions in the church. He was an active member of the Strasburg Lions Club where he was made a Melvin Jones Fellow, and a member of the North Shenandoah Ruritan Club serving in various offices.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Emma Lambert, Onedia Bryant, Ida Catherine Correu, and two infant siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 69+ years, M.Margaret McInturff Funkhouser of Strasburg, VA; a son, William "Bill" Funkhouser and wife, Sue of Mount Jackson, VA; granddaughter, Amy Rybicki and husband Jacob of Alexandria; a grandson, Jeremy Funkhouser and wife, Jackie of Harrisonburg, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Strasburg Lions Club and North Shenandoah Ruritan Club.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 PM.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 193 W. Washington Street, Strasburg, VA 22657.
