He graduated with a Technical Engineering Degree from the Hoehere Technische Lehranstalt (HTL) in Moedling, Austria in 1960 before moving to Erlangen, Germany to work at Siemens Medical Systems in 1961. In 1968, Walter's career led him to immigrate with his family to the United States. He lived and worked in Arizona, Georgia and New Jersey where he became a U.S. citizen.

Walter's career at Siemens spanned a broad range of engineering and management disciplines including servicing hospital diagnostic equipment, developing two patented inventions, and managing product marketing and pricing structures. In 2004, he retired from the Siemens U.S. headquarters in Iselin, NJ after forty-two years of dedicated service to the same company.

He and his wife moved to Stephens City, Virginia in 2006, where they lived for seven years before recently relocating to nearby Winchester. An avid motorcyclist throughout his life, Walter was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. He enjoyed photography, skiing, and cycling, and he and his wife camped and traveled extensively. Walter contributed to numerous charities over the course of his life including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Front Royal/Warren County.

Above all, Walter Weigl will be remembered for his strong devotion to his family.
