John Brabant Landes, 68, of Front Royal, Virginia, formerly of Bethesda/Gaithersburg, Maryland and Laramie, Wyoming, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at home.

John was born February 17, 1946, in Washington, DC, son of the late Robert and Sallie Landes.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Dowling Landes; son, Cary David Horlbeck of Phoenix, Arizona and his wife Sheryl; granddaughters, Mariah, Jessica, and Alyssa; a sister, Nancy Landes Rupertus and her husband Jack; two nieces, Adrienne DeArmon and Natalie Tucker; six great-nieces; and one great-great niece.
John was an inventive, multi-talented being with capabilities that could have spanned fur-trapping in the 1700's, to home building with family and friends, to IT security systems development. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a strong character much appreciated for his intelligence, caring, generosity, intense conversations, sense of humor, and strong bonds with lifelong friends who have myriad wild stories to tell. He was loved and will be missed.
