John E. Niceley, 90, of Front Royal, VA died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, at 12:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Niceley was born August 10, 1923 in Covington, Kentucky, son of the late George and Maggie Niceley.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran proudly serving his country during World War II. He retired as an industrial photographer with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Washington, D.C. and was a member of Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church where he was a past deacon.

Mr. Niceley was married to the late Catherine Frances Niceley.

Surviving are three sons, Chris Niceley of Daniel Island, SC, Bruce Niceley of Knoxville, MD, and Ted Niceley of Albuquerque, NM; two step-daughters, Cathy Riston of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Nancy Schooley of St. Leonard, MD; and numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service, from 11:00-12:00 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601 or to Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church, 5852 Howellsville Rd., Front Royal, VA 22630.
