Marguerite Parker Messick Courtright, 65, of Woodstock, died Monday September 12, 2011, peacefully at home after a nine year battle with breast cancer.

Meg was born and grew up in Garden City, New York, the daughter of the late Laurance C. and Augusta P. Messick. She lived briefly in Tallahassee, Florida and Camp Hill, Pennsylvania before moving to Virginia in 1980. In 1993, she moved to Woodstock where she has since resided.

Meg is survived by her husband Lance Courtright; son, Richard V. Tearle, Jr. of Warrenton, Virginia; son, David L. Tearle and his wife Gretchen Tearle of Bellevue, Washington; daughter, Deborah T. Racey and her children Kendra and Cameron Racey of Bremerton, Washington; stepson, Eric Courtright, his wife Christina, and their daughters Cecilia, Alexis and Molly of Bel Air, Maryland.

She is also survived by her brother, Edward Rhodes Messick of Southport, North Carolina; and her sister, Ellen Messick Hollister of Kilmarnock, Virginia. She is survived by three nieces and two nephews, Margaret Elizabeth Hay of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Laurance Clifton Messick, II of Madison, North Carolina, Cynthia Behrer Kawa of Plymouth, Wisconsin, Carolyn Augusta Prince of Minden, Nevada, and Scott Behrer of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Laurel Messick Behrer.

She was a member of the Woodstock Presbyterian Church and also had been active with St. Luke Lutheran Church, Woodstock Library and a quilting group at Woodstock United Methodist Church.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Woodstock Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, with Pastor Lisa Webb officiating.
