Joseph Franklin Minnick, III of Timberville, Virginia, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Life Care Center of New Market, where he had been a resident for two years.

He was born at home on November 29, 1932, the son of the late J. Frank Minnick and Fern Driver Minnick. He was a graduate of New Market High School Class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Army. On July 20, 1957 he married the former Catherine Anne Everly who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Julie M. Myers and husband Greg of Burlington, North Carolina, and a son Joseph F. Minnick IV and wife Teresa of Timberville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, William Joseph Myers of Nashville, Tennessee, Erin Elizabeth Myers of Burlington, North Carolina, Joseph Franklin Minnick V, and Jacob Mathias Minnick of Timberville.

He was a well known farmer and the third generation to operate the family century old farm where he was engaged in raising poultry, cattle and hogs.

Joe was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, New Market, Virginia, where he had served on the Church Council and various committees. He had also served as Treas. of the St. Matthew Cemetery Trustees. He was a life member of the NRA, a member of Co.E 33rd Va. CSA reactivated Civil War Unit, a member of the Va. Farm Bureau Assoc., the Va. Poultry Federation, The Shenandoah Valley Folklife Society and the New Market School Association.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 31, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at the Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Reformation Lutheran Church, 9283 Congress St., New Market, Virginia with the Rev. Jeffrey R. Sonafelt presiding. Burial will be private Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Timberville, Virginia.
