Henry Dryden Van Cleave, Jr., 80, of Front Royal, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

A Viewing will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at noon at Maddox Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Stepp from New Hope Bible Church officiating. A burial with military honors is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. in Culpeper National Cemetery on Monday, February 25, 2013.

Mr. Van Cleave was born October 22, 1932 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, the son of the late Henry Dryden Van Cleave, Sr. and Emma Lee Stewart Van Cleave.

He earned a B.S. in Geology from Louisiana State University and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Virginia. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired in 1985 from the EPA after managing their national oil spill response division.

He then worked for Ecology and Environment (Buffalo, NY) as a Vice President in their Washington D.C. office. He also worked as an independent consultant for several years advising local and state governments on their emergency management and homeland security plans.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Colleen Edith King Van Cleave; his loving children, Keith Dryden Van Cleave (Peggy) of Chantilly, Leslie Ann Atkin (Mike) of Kensington, Maryland, Shawn Michael Van Cleave (Suzanne Hamilton) of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to noon at Maddox Funeral Home.
