James Robert Shields, 88, of Winchester, VA died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.

Mr. Shields was born February 27, 1925 in Caistorville, Ontario, Canada, the son of William W. and Gladys Rose Bisbee Shields.
He was a graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. He was a chemical engineer with Rubbermaid Company and O'Sullivan Corp. His memberships included the Market Street United Methodist Church, Isaac Walton League, and the NRA.
He married Muriel Ruth Manewell on September 16, 1950 in Hamilton, Ont. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2003.
He is survived by his children, Margaret E. Aronhalt, Robert J. Shields and his wife Carolyn, and David A. Shields, all of Winchester; sister, Ruth Cieszkowski of Dunnville, Ont; brothers, Ross Shields of Deep River, Ont and William Shields of Concord, Ont; and three grandchildren.
Along with his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen R. Shields.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Jean McDonald-Walker and Pastor Andy Brock officiating at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Shields, David Shields, James Shields II, J. Max Leight, Terry Leight, and Bill Deibler.
