Arthur Franklin Schweizer(1929 - 2013)

Arthur Franklin Schweizer, age 84, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away June 25, 2013, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Sandestin. Art, as most people know him, was an icon in this community for almost 60 years. He was born on March 27, 1929, in Lamar, Ind., to Mabel and Otto Schweizer.
Art joined the Air Force and while serving his four years, he married the love of his life, Joan Hertzing, and married on July 8, 1951. While stationed at Eglin, Air Force Base, Art opened his first business which later was known as Art's T.V. and Appliance, then Art's Appliance Superstore. Where many friendships were develop and remain. He sold the business to his daughter, Karnise, in 2006, but always stayed active in it, it was in his blood.
His community service included: City Councilman, Military Affairs, Krewe of Bowlegs, Free Masson of the Alpha Lodge of Fort Walton Beach, Shriner, American Legend, Chamber of Commerce, Board member of Beach Community Bank, founding member of Shalimar Presbyterian Church and supported many little league programs.
Art's passion was his farm, where he hosted many, many quail and dove hunts for his friends and family. Later he enjoyed spending hours on his tractor bush hogging or on his bulldozer.
Art is preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Otto Schweizer; his sister, Wilhelmina Schmit; and oldest son Jeff Schweizer. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 62 years; his daughter, Karnise; son, Todd (wife Melanie); and seven grandchildren, Jason, Jarrod, Josh, Whitney, Summer, Dakota and Payton; and one great-grandson, Wyatt.
Visitation will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2 p.m., with a reception to immediately follow at the church. Private Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
