Arthur Patrick Beamish, age 82, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, after living a full life as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, soldier, business owner, and active member of his church and community.
Art was born in Philadelphia, son of Richard and Mary Beamish. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a proud PIKE brother. Art served in the Army
during Korea and upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Key Biscayne, where he met and married Hazel Conner (deceased).
Art and Hazel moved to Sandy Springs, Ga., where they raised their three children. An avid life long sports fan, Art enjoyed swimming, diving and water skiing (a past member of the Cypress Gardens Water Ski team) when he was young. Art enjoyed going to Braves and Falcons games with friends and family, cheering on his beloved UT football team and a few rounds of golf! Art and Hazel were regulars at the Dunwoody Country Club, their favorite place to dance. During 54 years of marriage, Art and Hazel traveled throughout the world, making friends and memories everywhere they went.
After a successful career as a business owner, Art retired to Destin, Fla. Art was a parishioner at St. Jude the Apostle (Sandy Springs) and Corpus Christi Church (Destin). Art remained active in his community, dedicating many hours to organizations he loved, including the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Crispy Warriors. He also served as a board member of the Jetty East Condominium Association, where he resided.
Art's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He kept tabs on his many nieces and nephews, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, who adored their grandfather. Art loved to tease, joke, and laugh while enjoying a cocktail or two; he will forever be remembered as the life of the party. Art is survived by his three children, Sharon (Gary), Cindy (Mike) and Art (Tiffany). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Leslie and Stephanie Webb; Kelsey, Patrick, and Cameron Guilford; and Brooklin, Lexi, and Piper Beamish.
Anyone who knew Art knows that he loved to have a good time with family and friends. So, in his honor, his family is hosting a celebration of his life on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, in the Palm Room of the Islander Condominiums, Destin, Fla., at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Knights of Columbus, Emerald Coast Council, 11893, P.O. Box 42, Destin, Fla., and that you raise a glass in his memory.
