Mr. Billy Wayne Truett, age 63, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born Sept. 6, 1950, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., to Shelby and Ella Holman Truett.
Mr. Truett was a lifelong resident of Walton County. He was Holiness by faith and a member of the Community Holiness Church in DeFuniak Springs, where he served as an ordained Deacon and played the guitar. He worked with Danley Furniture for 16 years and he also worked as a correctional officer for 24 years before retiring as a Sergeant. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and writing gospel songs. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events and traveling, he loved his dog 'B.J."
Mr. Truett was preceded in death by his parents, one niece Michelle Wood, two sisters-in-law Phyllis Holmes and Irene Burkett and father-in-law Eugene Holmes.
Mr. Truett is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Barbara Truett of DeFuniak Springs, two sons Shelby Wayne Truett and wife Carry, and Bryan Eugene Truett and wife Kristin, one daughter Heather Renee Reynolds and husband Kenny, two brothers Odis Burkett and Wilbur Burkett all of DeFuniak Springs, two sisters Pauline Dickey of Blountstown, Fla., and Betty Sue Wood and husband Sammy of DeFuniak Springs, six grandchildren Koleman Truett, Alexis Reynolds, Celeste Truett, Hannah Reynolds, Kenny Reynolds and Kalyn Truett, numerous nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Dorothy Cordle and her husband Robert and sister-in-law Norma Price and husband Danny.
Visitation services will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Community Holiness Church; 971 West Live Oak Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Community Holiness Church, with Reverends Howard Taylor and Lonnie Forehand officiating.
Burial will follow in the Limestone Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hilton, Kevin Harper, Michael Wood, Ike Bird, Koleman Truett and Jimmy Wheat.
