Charles Henry Lingenfelter Sr.(1919 - 2014)

Charles Henry Lingenfelter Sr., born Dec. 7, 1919, in Newport, N.C., has entered in to heavenly peace and rest on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Betty Marie Lingenfelter. He also leaves behind six children, Ruth Marie Lawson, Charles Henry Lingenfelter Jr. (Sharon), Ruby Mary Kenyon, Elmer Emmett Lingenfelter (Pauline), Doris Jean Girard (David), and Betty Linda Redmond; and his extended family includes 21 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
Charles served in the United States Army and Air Force for 26 years, retiring in 1963 at Hurlburt Field, Fla. He then became an independent contractor with Links Landscaping & Heavy Equipment in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., then left to move to Crossville, Tenn., in 1979 for 25 years, again independently doing farming and lumber jacking. Returning to Florida in 2003 and settling in Mossey Head, building Adirondack furniture as Links Woodworks.
Charles was a member of the VFW in Florida and Tennessee, being honored in 2008 as a Silver Member. He was an avid supporter of the National Boys Ranches, and various other charities. Charles is a member of St. Margarets Catholic Church of DeFuniak Springs.
Charles will be sorely missed, but will remain in our many hearts.
Services are scheduled for Monday, March 3, at Brackney Funeral Service in Crestview, Fla., at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside procession with honors will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach.
