DeMetro ""Mac"" Cavitch

DeMetro "Mac" Cavitch, 92, a longtime resident of Shalimar, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013. He was born in New Village, N.J., and graduated from Washington High School in Washington, N.J. He was a graduate of Lafayette College, in Easton, Pa., with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and Florida State University with an MBA. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot with the rank of first lieutenant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with three Oakleaf Clusters, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was a U.S. Air Force Civil Service employee for 28 years with his most recent position being that of Physical Science Administrator for the 3246th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base.
Mac loved traveling in his motor home across the U.S., visiting many national parks and all states, he enjoyed hiking the outdoors and his daily walks with friends. He belonged to "Holiday Ramblers" and "The Golden Falcon" motor home clubs.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret E. Karpack Cavitch; his brother, Michael Cavitch; and his sisters, Christina Poch, Katherine Attanasi and Yvonne Gage. He is survived by his companion Waltraud "Wally" Dodge, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m., followed by services at 12 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 110 SW St. Mary Ave., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548. Interment services will follow immediately at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
