Donald F. Widmaier, Sr., of Crestview, Fla., age 83, passed away peacefully with his son and care giver at his side on March 5, 2014. He was born on Feb. 5, 1931, in Jersey City, N.J. He served in the Air Force for a faithful 28 years and retired as a senior master sergeant at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina in 1977. Don was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church; Knights of Columbus Council 7968; Foxwood Country Club; Joy Club and was a volunteer at the North Okaloosa Medical Center. Don mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, eating out, traveling, receiving new jokes via E-mail, golfing, and visiting the casinos. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his son, Don Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Crestview; his daughter, ChrisAnn and her husband, Jimmy, of Crestview; his brother, John and wife, Kay, of Crestview; his grandchildren, Derek, Dylan, and Shauna; and step-grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Michele, Beverly and Matthew, and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation on Friday, March 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m., at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Victory Church in Crestview. The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice, and his three care givers Rachel, Terry, and Kim for their compassion and care.
