John Devore Reynolds, age 80, of Miramar Beach, Fla., passed away on Jan. 28, 2013.
John was born on Sept. 19, 1932, in Shreveport, La., and grew up in Iraan, Texas. After high school, he enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy
. John proudly attended and was a loyal fan of the University of Texas
. John, a computer programmer by trade, previously resided in Santa Monica, Calif., Huntsville, Ala., and Gaithersburg, Md. John was an amazing father and a wonderful "Poppy" to his grandchildren. He was known for his passionate zeal toward life and people. John never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed many social activities with his family and friends such as dancing, fishing and boating. John loved competing in a game of tennis or bridge and cheering on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Reynolds Lewis and her husband, Jamie, of Atlanta, Ga., and Rebecca Reynolds Barrett and her husband, Taff, of Spring Hill, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kendall Lewis, Owen Lewis and Riley Barrett; sister-in-law, Pat Reynolds; nephew, John; and niece, Susan. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Reynolds; and brother, Tom Reynolds.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Destin, 154 Calhoun Avenue, Destin, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the "Hannah's Hope Fund," c/o Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, 601 Tamiami Trail South, Venice, FL, 34285, in John's memory.
