Kenneth E. Burkholder, Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.), was born on July 22, 1927, at Fort Madison, Iowa, to Elmer and Dagmar Burkholder and died on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.
He attended Chillicothe Illinois High School and enlisted in the Navy during World War II
(1944). He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 and served in Korea (1951-1952). He also served in at U-Tapao, Thailand, during the Vietnam conflict (1967-1968). Kenneth was discharged from the Air Force in 1977 and made his home in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He worked at Eglin Air Force Base, civil service, until his final retirement in 1992.
Kenneth leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Rita; one son, Wayne (Honey) and family of Fort Walton Beach; as well as three brothers, Jack (Sandy) of Virginia, Keith (Effie) and Wayne A. of Illinois; also three sisters, Phyllis (Don) and Joan (Jake) of Illinois, and Dorothy (George) of Arizona; and his brother-in-law, Trevor Hickson (Elizabeth); and many nieces and nephews in England.
Since retirement, Kenneth has enjoyed camping and sail boating with his friends and companions.
A memorial service for Kenneth will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. SE, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., beginning at 11 a.m., under the direction of the Rev. John Scott with full Military Honors. A private ceremony at Barrancas National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
