Sue was married to Gerald Van Winkle, who preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by her five children, Virginia Mobbs of Alachua, Fla., Jerry Lee Van Winkle of Fredericksburg, Va., Valerie Van Winkle of Fort Walton Beach, Thomas (Tammy) Van Winkle of Slocomb, Ala., and David (Sonja) Van Winkle of Fort Walton Beach; granddaughters, Stephanie Mobbs, Leslie Garrison, Kimberly James, Rebecca Van Winkle, and Alexis Van Winkle; six great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, David (Mern) Henry of Port St Lucie, Fla.; sister, Janet Nelson of Cassopolis, Mich.; and sister, Charlotte Henry of Niceville, Fla.
She assumed the position of president of MicroMed, a heart monitoring service, after the death of her husband, and served in that capacity for a number of years. In the subsequent years, she was employed by Drs. J. R. and Patti Hambley for almost 20 years, looking after their four children, Katherine, Robert, William, and Caroline, with the same care and love as she provided for her own children.
Sue was a warm, caring person greatly loved and admired by all who knew her.
At her request, there will be no service. Instead, a celebration of her life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., at the home of her son, David, on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013.
