Julian Scholten Obituary

Julian Seiji Scholten, 26, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Feb. 18, 2012, while serving his country near Djibouti, Africa.
Julian was born at Misawa Air Base in northern Japan to Gaylon Scholten and Yumiko Southard on Oct. 17, 1985. He grew up in Japan, California, Germany, Colorado and Maryland. Julian attended Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, Md., where he enjoyed playing football and met his wife, Diamond.
Julian entered the U.S. Air Force in 2007. After basic military training, Julian was assigned to various training assignments, including the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., and Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas. Julian was assigned to the 25th Intelligence Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla. Julian had completed three combat deployments and accumulated more than 900 combat flight hours as an Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Operator.
Julian was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and loved Japanese and Chinese cuisine. He listened to most genres of music, including Hip Hop and R&B, and enjoyed movies that made him laugh.
Julian was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kazunori Nakane. Survivors include his beloved wife, Diamond; his loving mother, Yumiko; his stepfather, Leon Southard; his father, Gaylon; his stepmother, Leonila Scholten; maternal grandmother, Mieko Nakane (Japan); paternal grandparents, Gary and Charlene Scholten; brothers, Joji Nakane, Tory Ryuji Scholten, Leon Myuji Southard, Brendan Eiji Southard and Lawrence Johnson; sister, Iris Mie Southard; and his dog, Sachi.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3, from 11 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service following at noon at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

It's been so long yet it still feels like just yesterday.. I'm here right where you were a couple years ago, beginning my military career with the USAF. Not a day goes by when I'm not thinking of you bro.. You've inspired me in ways you don't even know. At first I didn't understand.. I thought, why Julian? Not Julian, anyone but you. But now I see, now I can understand that you have to love this world and the people in it so much more than you do yourself to serve and defend our country. And I know that if you were here, that you would say that you loved us all so much, that you would die for us all. If only you were here for all our hearts to beat again.. I miss you Julian, my brother. I love you.

It's not everyday that you come across a person like Julian. Julian was an intelligent, caring, fun, and loving individual. He had a way of making an impression, and people were drawn to him. He saw the good in everybody. He was about having a good time, and made sure everyone around him was. Not ever did he complain about daily life stresses, instead he looked forward to everything that life had to offer. Julian loved all of his family and friends, and did whatever he could to help them and keep smiles on their faces. He went above and beyond to always make sure I was happy. He was the best husband, son, brother, and friend he could be. Julian will continue living in the hearts of all those he touched.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and condolences through this troubling time. The family is very appreciative.

Behind every strong soldier, there is a strong woman who stands behind him, supports him, and loves him with all her heart.

You have the personality that can light up a room and I pray now you will do the same to the night sky. And I'll never forget the slowest TD all time. You aren't the a fallen, you've risen now. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved Julian. I wasn't privileged to know him personally,
but my daughter Annie, also in the Airforce spoke of what a great friend he was. He paid the ultimate price for our Nation. He will live forever in the hearts of the many people that love him. God bless you.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Julian will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.
