Barbara Rushing Scofield Wilson, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., at the age of 84. She was born on July 20, 1929, in Tallahassee, Fla. Barbara was a graduate of Fort Meade High School in 1947 and of Florida State University in 1951 where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority. She married Thomas David Scofield on August 9, 1951, and began her life as a military wife until his death on December 22, 1962. On Dec. 27, 1967, Barbara married Linwood Grey Wilson Sr. and moved to DeFuniak Springs where she resided until her death. Barbara taught in the Okaloosa and Walton county school districts as an elementary and middle school teacher and served as a media specialist at James E. Plew Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary, Walton Middle School and West DeFuniak Elementary where she retired in 1994. Barbara was a member of Choctawhatchee Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she established the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Barbara loved her church, community, family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husbands, Maj. Thomas David Scofield and Linwood Grey Wilson Sr.; parents, William Dykes and Louise Rushing; brother, Edward Dykes Rushing; son-in-law, David R. White; husband's son, Linwood Grey Wilson Jr.; sister-in-law, Harriet Scofield; and brother-in-law, Bill Banks.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Scofield White (Ed) of Brentwood, Tenn., Cynthia Scofield Roehm (Johnny) of DeFuniak Springs, Julia Scofield White of DeFuniak Springs, and her husband's children, whom she loved dearly: Michael McKinnon Wilson (Lynne) of Arlington, Va., and Carolyn Wilson Lemanski (John) of Valrico, Fla.; grandchildren: David White (Rebecca), Jay White (Annie), Ann-Haley Poag (Matt), Christopher White, Katelyn Tidwell (Jonathan), John Michael Roehm, Harper Roehm (Morgan), Todd Bierbaum (Amanda), Andrew White (Michelle), Josh White (Heidi), Kelly Harvell, Gwendolyn Osborn (Michael), Sarah Grey Boliek (Andy), Bethany Lemanski (Michael Paille), John Lemanski (Farrah), Missy LaPorte (Nick); twin sister, Bettye Banks; sisters-in-law: Jackie Rushing, Monica Scofield Rhodes, and Deborah Scofield Horn;17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs beginning at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Rob West and Reverend Dr. Larry Teasley officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
