For over three decades, Mike consistently served and provided critical support to several area schools: Ocean City Elementary, Pryor Middle School, and Choctawhatchee High School through a varied number of integral responsibilities/activities. He was selected to manage all facets of the Choctaw Indian band, football and honor guard concessions for almost a decade beginning in the 1980s. From 1986 to 2011, Mike supported the basketball team in an array of positions. He managed the gate; served as the shootout director, coach, and administrator; and managed the concessions and the team memorabilia sales. His ardent management garnered hundreds of volunteers and thousands of dollars for the Choctaw band and the Indian's basketball team.
Mike or "Mr. Mike" as the students called him also served as a chaperone, guide and mentor to a number of students throughout his life and across the country, but he was best known at Choctawhatchee High School. In 2012, he was one of the first inductees into the Choctawhatchee High School Hall of Fame.
